JOINING THE INVICTA JUNIORS
Invicta Junior Ice Hockey Club wants as many girls and boys to join the Invicta Juniors and learn to play the great sport of ice hockey.
We believe that there are numerous benefits for children who play ice hockey; improvements in fitness, strength, co-ordination and agility, as well as developing confidence, sportsmanship and self-esteem.
Most of all, children have fun in a positive, healthy and safe environment.
Invicta Junior Ice Hockey Club has worked with Planet Ice Gillingham to establish a program for players of all ages and abilities, from children who are new to the ice, to established skaters.
In Learn to Skate sessions qualified coaches teach children who are new to the ice the how to skate by learning basic skating skills.
Hockey Excellence sessions enhance skating techniques and introduce basic hockey skills.
The final stage of the program is for children to start training with, and playing for, Invicta Junior teams.
Before children register with the Invicta Juniors it is important to understand that basic skating skills are required at each age group to participate in ice hockey training with the Invicta Junior teams.
This is not intended to discourage children from starting to play ice hockey, but instead ensure that they are developing skills are the correct stage of the development program.
What skating skills are required? We are not suggesting that everyone needs to be able to skate like Sidney Crosby or Torvill & Dean, but some skills are required to train with the Invicta Juniors. The skills table shown sets out what is required at each age group.
New players who are registering will be asked to attend a brief skating assessment to enable Team Coaches to review skating abilities and determine whether the player is ready to start training with the Invicta Juniors or whether the player would benefit from attending Learn to Skate sessions, Hockey Excellence sessions, or a combination of both.
If this is the case, rest assured that player registrations are valid for the full season, and training fees will not be payable until players start to train with the Invicta Juniors.
We actively encourage all children to skate as much as possible to continue to develop and improve their skating skills. We also recommend parents consider arranging one to one skating lessons with a specialised skating coach for their children to ensure the correct techniques are being learnt and adopted, the Planet Ice Gillingham rink reception can offer further information and provide contact details of skating coaches.
When players are away from the ice rink, rollerblading is an ideal way to practice and complement on-ice skating. The basic premise is practice, practice, practice, and the more practice, the better!
The sooner children learn to skate and play ice hockey the more time they will have available to develop the necessary skills and understand the game. Children who start to skate and play ice hockey a little later in life will be less experienced and will need to work harder to catch up with children who started earlier.
It is certainly not impossible for children in this position to start playing ice hockey, it just requires commitment and dedication from players and we are happy to coach and guide players with this.
We hope that the above information is helpful and that you would like to register to play ice hockey with the Invicta Juniors.
