U9 Roos Enjoy A Great Day' Hockey at Ally Pally

September 9, 2018

The U9 Invicta 'Roos' team travelled to the stunning Alexandra Place on Sunday 9th September for a cross-ice, round-robin tournament hosted by the Haringey Hounds Junior Ice Hockey Club.

Many Buckaroos made their debut playing for Invicta including Zack Beale, Ellis Hill, Harry Innes, Finley Tennant, Annie East, Benjamin Bates and Ben Tancsics, with Samuel Lenk between the Roos' pipes.

The cross-ice tournament opponents were the hosts, the U9 Haringey Hounds, along with the U9 Slough Jets and the U9 Lee Valley Lions. Alicia Offord helped out a short-benched Slough and Michael Sullivan lent a hand to Streatham.

The first game saw Invicta take on home team Haringey. Zack Beale scored the opening goal, followed by goals from Xenxo Dobbs, Jacob O’Dwyer and William Lake. It was an exciting game to watch and there were some great saves from both Invicta goalies – Charlie Duncan-Woolard and Samuel Lenk. The Roos communicated well and made some great passes.

Next Invicta faced Streatham who were a force to be reckoned with. Jacob and Xenxo put their names on the scoresheet but Streatham dominated the game, with Michael Sullivan scoring some great goals for Streatham against his Invicta team mates.  Taylor Edwards and Zack had near misses but as a team, the Roos never gave up and played great hockey until the final buzzer.

Finally, the Roos played the Slough Jets. There was an abundance of goals from both sides. Ellis, Jacob, Taylor and Xenxo all scored some fantastic goals but the Jets were relentless and tested the skills of both Invicta netminders with some great shots. It was an end to end game which saw some great passing between the more experienced Roos and their newer team mates. Nicholas Pera-Hall stayed strong and focused in defence and forced many shots on target wide.

The Under 9’s are showing great promise and look set for an exciting season ahead with their camaraderie, passion and determination.

Spirit of the Game was awarded to Harry Innes

Man of the Match went to Aurora Dobbs.

Well Done ALL!
