U11 Stampede take the Sting out of Swarm

September 16, 2018

On Sunday 16th September the Under 11 Invicta Stampede travelled to the John Nike Leisure centre in Bracknell for their first away game of the 2018/19 season. Invicta were high in spirit following their 9-3 win at home to Chelmsford the previous week and were boosted by Aurora Dobbs making her debut for the Stampede.

The Stampede took control of the first period early on with Dylan Worthy scoring a great goal within 30 seconds. Bracknell fought back and evened things up shortly after . The next few minutes saw the Stampede penalised with three players having a stint in the penalty box for minor infringements for tripping and interference. The Swarm took full advantage of the power play with Bracknell powering a shot past Invicta 'tendie', Heath Prentice. Undeterred Evan Chard for the Stampede drove a shot into the top left hand corner with assistance from James Stanmore. The final minutes of the 1st period saw Bracknell take a penalty for tripping but the score remained 2-2.

The second period saw Invicta come fighting back with Blake Jones assisting Chard to score his second of the game. The Bracknell defence was left short when Oliver Parker fired in a great shot after a pass from Stanmore.  Invicta dominated the second period with great passing and Prentice made some astounding saves keeping the Stampede ahead when the period-end buzzer went. 2-4 to Invicta.

The last period saw Bracknell take an early goal. Minutes later, Reuben Yeates found space and passed to Jones who tucked the puck into the net. Bracknell responded with two more goals, despite Invicta still dominating the play. The Stampedes refused to give up and Alan Khafizov scored two in rapid succession, Charlie Murray assisting with the second. Unfortunately, Invicta conceded another penalty and on the resulting the power play, Bracknell managed to even things up.

Final buzzer saw an entertaining game end with a 7-7 draw.

Despite the draw, Invicta take the win as Bracknell forfeited the game for being short benched.

Man of the match was awarded to Evan Chard and Aurora Dobbs took home the Spirit of the Match.

Stampedes next game is at Planet Ice, Gillingham on 20th October. Face off 16.15.
