U9 Bucks Shine in Romford

October 7, 2018

Sunday 7th October saw the Under 9’ Invicta Bucks, travel to the Romford's new home at the Sapphire Ice Rink. The Romford Raiders, Chelmsford Cherokees and the Lee Valley Lions were the Bucks’ opponents for this x-ice tournament. Bucks' Jacob O’ Dwyer and Nicholas Pera-Hall helped out a short-benched Lee Valley whilst Charlie Duncan-Woolard dressed for the Cherokees as netminder.

The Bucks faced Chelmsford first who after a quick interchange of passes tested the reactions of Samuel Lenk in goal immediately following the opening face-off. Lenk remained calm and made an excellent save within the first minute. Spurred on by the fast pace of the game, Harry Foreman scooped up the loose puck and made a quick wrist shot at goal. Duncan-Woolard made a fantastic save. Undeterred, Foreman continued to work his way up the wing and scored the opening goal. Finley Tennant also tested Duncan-Woolard who again made an impressive save. The Bucks kept the pressure on as Ellis Hill made a quick flit towards the goal, passed to Xenxo Dobbs who shot but Duncan-Woolard’s speedy reaction saw the puck safely nestled in his glove. Chelmsford hit back and scored their first of the game, followed in quick succession by another. It was an exciting, fast paced match as Ollie Banks also made an attempt at goal but unfortunately shot wide. There was a flurry of goals as Michael Sullivan, Zack Beale and Foreman all managed to find the back of the net. Duncan-Woolard remained poised and calm and still managed to keep his usual team mates at bay with some excellence saves. Taylor Edwards scored the final goal with an accurate wrist shot just before the buzzer went.

The second game saw Invicta take on the Lee Valley Lions. O’Dwyer dressed in Lee Valley colours made the initial attempt at goal with a fierce shot. Lenk managed to force the shot wide. Dobbs found space and scored the first of the game. O’ Dwyer kept the pressure on with a flurry of attempts and finally managed to sink a couple past Lenk. Edwards and Beale also made some excellent shots but were unlucky. Pera-Hall stayed strong in defence and to frustrate his normal team mates. The next Invicta goal came from Benjamin Bates, who scored his first goal as a Buck and he received an extra big cheer from team mates and supporters. Delighted with his first goal, Bates pushed on wards and managed to score another. Well done Benjamin! Foreman and Beale also managed to add to Invicta’s tally. In the final few minutes of the game, Hill and Harry Innes were unlucky to have the puck cleared off the line. It really was a close and exciting game to watch.

Finally, Invicta faced hosts, Romford Raiders. Again, Lenk made a sharp save very early on but the Raiders were determined to score and managed to sneak one past. At the other end, Beale hit a shot that hit the Tendie’s pads but unfortunately, no one was there to pick up the rebound. Dobbs and Hill worked well together and both scored in quick succession. The Raider’s Tendie was put to the test as Bates, Foreman, Hill, Innes, Edwards and Tennant all made shots that were either wide, saved or hit the crossbar. Romford took chances and managed to score another but the Bucks were on fire with Tennant scoring his very first for the Bucks! Well done Finley! Beale and Ellis also scored another few with assists from Dobbs.

Another fine performance from the Invicta Bucks!
